Prayer for the Kingdom

This beautiful prayer was offered by Casey Christopher during worship today: Great God Almighty and Father in Heaven, We bring our hearts, our lives, our families, our songs, and our worship here before You today, asking You to receive it all joyfully in the name of Your perfect Son, Jesus Christ. LORD, You have shown us how the great stories can go all tangled and, for a season, Your purposes are upended.  Heroes will lose their way, heroines are tempted by villains, and the dragon takes over the land.  Sometimes Israel becomes Egypt, sending parents with their children into strange lands to escape their own governors.  Sometimes Jerusalem becomes Babylon, and she begins to devour her own.  Heavenly...

Lord’s Day prayer

We extol you, O God our Father, For you have lifted us up and have not let our enemies rejoice over us.  We cried to you for help, And you healed us.  You brought up our souls from Sheol.  We sing praise to you And give thanks to your holy name.  For your anger is but for a moment, Your favor is for a lifetime.  You have taken away our night of weeping And brought us joy in the morning.  You have loosed our sackcloth And girded us with gladness. You have  turned our mourning into dancing.  So we will not be silent.  We will give thanks to you forever.  May heaven and earth and all that is...

A Lord’s Day prayer

How lovely is your tabernacle, O LORD of host. Our souls long for your courts, and our hearts cry out for you, O living God. You are our King and our God. How blessed are those who dwell in your house. How blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. They pass through the dessert and make it flow with springs of water. They go from strength to strength, and each one appears before you in Zion. Behold our shields, O God, and look upon the faces of your anointed ones. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. We would rather be doorkeepers in your house than dwell...

Sabbath prayer.

O God our Father, we are glad in your presence, and rejoice before you. We extol you who rides upon the clouds; we sing praises to your name. For you are a father of the fatherless, a defender of the widow and orphan. You set the solitary in families; You bring out those who are bound into prosperity; But the rebellious you set in a desert land. Through Christ Jesus, you have gone out before your people. You have born our sins and led us through the waters of death as on dry ground. You have destroyed Satan and his army. You have given us your covenant of love and your holy word.  You have carries us through...

Sabbath prayer.

We praise you, O God our Father, for you have sent your Son to be our brother and our Savior and our King. He has taken our treason upon him and buried it in the grave. You have raised him up and exalted him by the Spirit. You have established his throne forever and ever. We praise you Holy Spirit, for you have gathered us from among the nations; You have made us the Bride of Christ. You have transformed us and made us glorious within. We praise you, Lord Jesus, eternal Son, King of kings. You are fairer than all the sons of men.  Grace is poured upon your lips. Therefore God the Father has blessed you...

Sabbath prayer.

God our Father, we worship and thank you, for you are our refuge and our strength.  You are our help in times of trouble.  Therefore we will not be moved though the earth be moved and the mountains be piled into the sea; though the nations roar and the peoples be in tumult, we will not be moved.  For through Christ and the Spirit you have made a river of life that makes us glad.  You have saved us and gathered us and made us your holy city, your tabernacle.  You dwell in our midst; therefore we shall not be moved.  By your presence you help us; just at the break of day you save us.  We behold...

Sabbath prayer

We praise you, O God our Father, for you have inclined your heart to us; you have brought us up out of the pit, out of the miry clay, and set our feet on the Rock, even Christ.  You have established our steps.  You have put a new song in our mouths, a song of praise to You and the Son and the Spirit.  May many hear, O LORD, and turn to you in awe and trust.  How blessed is the man whose trust is in you, who does not respect the proud and deceitful.  Many, O LORD, are your wonderful works and your kind intentions toward us – more than we can count.  Supremely in the gift...

Prayer for Lord’s Day worship

We praise you, O LORD; we will sing praises to you all the days of our life.  We do not trust in princes, nor in the sons of men, in whom there is no help.  But we trust in you.  Happy are all those who do.  For you made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; and you keep faith forever.  You execute judgment for those who are oppressed for righteousness sake.  You give food to the hungry, and freedom to the prisoners.  You open the eyes of the blind, and raise those who are bowed down.  You love the righteous.  You watch over the stranger; you relieve the fatherless and the widow; but...

Lord’s Day Prayer

I called on the Lord in my distress; the Lord answered me and said me and abroad place.  The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.  What can man do to me?  The Lord is for me among those who helped me; therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.  It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.  It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.   (Based on Ps 118.5-9.) Let us worship the Triune God. God is the Lord, and he has given us light; bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.  He is our God,...

Confession for Lord’s Day Worship

Call to confession: The Lord preserves all who love him.  The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth.   (Ps 145.20a, 18). All: God and Father, You have instructed us to abhor what is evil and cling to what is good.  Yet in our hearts, we have often done the opposite — clinging to what is evil and abhorring what is good.  And the sin of our hearts has come out in words and deeds devoid of grace, love, and goodness.  We confess those sins to You now privately. [Pause for private confession.] Minister: Father, hear and grant each prayer, as well as the prayers only Your Spirit can...
