* What earlier parables does the parable of the dragnet echo?

* What is the them of the dragnet parable?

* How is the “sea” used in biblical typology?

* Where do we find this same theme in the OT?

* How do the opening and closing parables in the passage deal with treasure?

* What is the theme of the parable of the treasure in the field and the parable of the pearl of great price?

* How is the kingdom infinites big and infinitely small?

* How does the kingdom cover and conquer?

* What does it look like when someone owns the kingdom of heaven as their own personal treasure?

* What are the differences between the parable of the treasure and the parable of the pear of great price?

* How do those two parable have echos from the life of Jacob?

* Why are the men in the parables joyful in spite what they have given up?

* How did these parable particularly apply to Jesus’ generation?

* What is the ultimate issue?

* How does Jesus address this ultimate issue?

* What is being godly a matter of?

* What were we created and redeemed for?

* What is Jesus trying to do here?

* In what sense does self-interest play a part here?

* What is the nature of temptation?

* What is the most basic response of faith in times of temptation?

* How do we respond when we don’t sense the value of the kingdom?

* How are we supposed to be scribes?

Discussion questions for groups.

1. How does a high appraisal of the value of the kingdom of heaven (reign of God) in our lives relate to living out kingdom life and witnessing for the kingdom? Consider Psalm 51.12-13; Rom 14.17-19; Eph 5.20; Col 3.17; and also speak from your own experience.

2. What makes us lose our high appraisal of the value of kingdom of heaven (reign of God) in our lives? Consider Psalm 73.2-14; Mal 3.13-15; and also speak from your own experience.

3. How should we handle it when our high appreciation for the reign of God in our lives slips? Consider Psalm 73.15-28, Mal 3.16-18; Heb 12.1-16; and also speak from your own experience.
