Self-pity

A man may quite reasonably regard himself as a jolly good fellow. He may at the same time quite consistently regard himself as a miserable sinner. The evil comes in when he thinks himself too good a fellow for fellowship. The evil comes in when he thinks himself so very miserable a sinner that his misery is more important than his sin.
